Get closer through sexCouple makes love 101 straight days in ‘sexperiment;’ book out about itPeter Marcus, DDN Staff WriterTuesday, July 1, 2008 | | | Annie and Douglas Brown |
Most married men might wonder, “How do I get my wife to have sex with me every day for over three months?”
In Douglas Brown’s case, he didn’t even have to ask: “Let’s have sex for 101 straight days.” Brown’s wife, Annie, asked him that one evening.
And so the “sexperiment” began. Brown — a Boulder resident and Denver Post features writer — has since turned the experiment into a book, which has been getting incredible national attention, including recent spots on “The Today Show,” “The Morning Show with Mike and Juliet,” and even a crack on the “Tonight Show” with Jay Leno. “Just Do It: How One Couple Turned Off the TV and Turned On Their Sex Lives for 101 Days (No Excuses!)” will also be featured in People magazine.
“I have to say I’m enjoying (the fame),” the local writer told the Denver Daily News last Thursday.
Closer
What Brown is also enjoying is how 101 straight days of sex brought he and his wife closer together. Somehow doing it on top of a mountain near Buena Vista, in a yoga ashram, in an ostentatious hotel, a cheap motel, and a Victorian bed-and-breakfast, helped to strengthen Doug and Annie’s relationship.
While Doug tossed aside his favorite pair of baggy sweatpants with several pockets for a pair of designer pajama bottoms, Annie decided to wax her bikini area. It was this act of raw communication and compromise that brought the already strong husband-and-wife duo even closer together.
“We’re more intimate in general — emotionally, erotically, whatever else there would be — I feel our intimate life has strengthened,” said Brown.
Sex is hard work!
And don’t think having sex for 101 straight days is as easy and fun as it sounds. Brown explained that with children, work and chores, it was often a struggle to find the time and the interest.
“The hardest thing to do for us was getting past the exhaustion — coming home from work, having dinner time, doing the dishes, putting the kids to bed — then at 9 p.m. on a Wednesday, to know you have to do it, that was by far the hardest thing,” he said.
Doug and Annie still found ways to keep things interesting — like doing it while balancing on an exercise ball, using Viagra and under the influence of Chinese sex herbs. The couple also experimented with porn, sex toys and even attended a porno convention together in Las Vegas.
While some things stuck from the experiment, others did not — like the porn.
“That didn’t work for us. I’ve got nothing against it, but for whatever reason as a couple it’s not something that worked,” Brown said.
Doug and Annie no longer have sex every day, but the intimacy of those days still sticks with them. One thing the couple is not looking forward to is how to explain it to their kids when they’re old enough to completely understand what was taking place with their mom and dad.
“Right now I’m just telling the oldest (9 years old) the book’s about how much mommy and daddy love each other,” said Brown. “At some point we’ll have to get a little more detailed.”
The couple said the sexperiment was so successful that they would recommend it to other couples.
“If anybody wants to do it for 100 days, I’d say go ahead, it’s not going to hurt you,” Brown said. “It didn’t for us, that’s for sure.”
