Denver alcohol aficionados have nothing to whine about.
WineStyles – the nation’s largest wine store franchise– has opened a location inside the Shops at Vallagio in Englewood.
Well divided
WineStyles is designed like an old-world wine cellar with the wine divided by color and style (white – crisp, silky, rich and nectar; reds – fruity, bubbly mellow and bold) instead of varietals and regions. In addition, each bottle is accompanied by a description listing the wine’s characteristics, flavors and suggested food pairings. Owners Travis and Vickie Riddle hope the design will simplify the shopping experience.
“At WineStyles, we’ve taken the guesswork out of buying wine,” the Riddles said in a statement. “Whether you’re a novice or wine enthusiast, we can help you find the perfect bottle for any occasion.”
More than wine
In addition to buying bottles of wine – many of which are priced at or below $25 per bottle – WineStyles patrons can participate in a wine club that allows them to taste two different varietals. The Englewood location also offers a variety of gifts and wine accessories including customizable gift baskets and a frequent buyer program.
“WineStyles is the ideal solution for the wine buyer who is tired of being intimidated by the overwhelming selection of wine in typical liquor stores,” said Travis. “We encourage our customers to buy what they like based on taste, not price or region.”
Origins
The origins of WineStyles can be traced back to a backyard barbecue in 2002, according to the company. The number of wines available at the outdoor party overwhelmed the guests, so they decided to do a blind taste test to determine their favorites.
Surprisingly, the winners were not necessarily the most expensive or best marketed, but the ones that tasted the best. As a result, the idea for WineStyles was born to “make it easier for consumers to buy and understand wine.”
