Escape Colorado for an hour and experience the thrill of the Himalayas, the colorful sights of Tibet and the otherworldly scenes of Seychelles right here in Denver.
The Reed Photo-Art Gallery is exhibiting select photographs from award-winning photographer and Colorado resident Michael Anderson. The showcase features images that Anderson collected during five years of travel around the world.
“I take photographs to define my experiences, to encapsulate these moments and share the earth’s most extraordinary places with my friends and all of the aspiring vagabonds and wilderness trekkers that hope to travel one day,” Anderson said in his artist statement.
Anderson said in his statement that he traveled to places he dreamed about as a kid. He said he wanted to take his friends with him, but since “most of those friends will never make their journey there (because) life gets in the way sometimes,” he decided photographs would be a way to share the “majesty, intimacy and timelessness” of the world with others.
Additionally, Anderson wrote that he hopes the photographs will inspire a few people to take their own journey.
“All you need are a couple changes of clothes, some hard earned time off and less money than you think,” he wrote. “Live your dreams. Explore the world.”
Anderson worked as a backcountry ranger for several years in Yosemite National Park. He later started backpacking and climbing extensively while developing his passion as a photographer.
For a “day job,” Anderson now works as an ER doctor. The position affords him the money and time off necessary to travel the world, a venture that pays off well for fans of great photography, said Gina Lopez of the Reed Photo-Art Gallery.
“The colors are just absolutely amazing, and the images are just spectacular,” she said. “These photographs are just gorgeous.”
