STIMULUS SPENDING: Gov. Bill Ritter yesterday released new reports detailing how federal stimulus dollars are being spent across the state. The new reports, compiled by the Governor’s Economic Recovery Team, show that $1.2 billion has been spent so far across Colorado. The governor’s office said more than 10,000 jobs have been created or retained so far in education, construction and small businesses, to name a few. The new reports are available at www.colorado.gov/recovery.

WOMAN SENTENCED IN NEGLECT CASE: Colorado Attorney General John Suthers and Adams County District Attorney Don Quick yesterday announced that an Adams County District Court judge has sentenced Tammera Henritze to 18 years in prison for “neglecting and mistreating an elderly woman for whom she was a personal services provider.” Henritze, who pleaded guilty, was suspected of leaving her 65-year-old victim, an elderly woman with Alzheimer’s, locked in a bedroom that was surrounded by rotting food as well as her own urine and feces. Since investigators discovered the victim, she has been relocated to a nursing facility.

ALLERGY ALERT: The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment yesterday announced Mars Snackfood US has voluntarily recalled its Dove Caramel Pecan Perfection ice cream because it may contain undeclared peanuts. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to peanuts run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product. No related illnesses have been reported to date. For consumers who do not suffer from a peanut allergy or sensitivity, this product is safe to eat. The voluntary recall is limited to lot number 931AB5YN07, found on the bottom of the container. The product is sold in a brown and gold 15.10 fluid ounce pint container and pictures a ribbon of caramel, pecans and a square of Dove Brand Chocolate on the front. Consumers who purchased the product affected by this voluntary recall should return it to the store where they purchased it for a full refund. Consumers with questions may call Mars Snackfood US at 800-551-0895 between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

ODOM LAUNCHING CAMPAIGN FOR STATE SENATE TODAY: Wheat Ridge Republican John Odom will kick off his campaign for State Senate today. Odom will make his announcement at the Old Capitol Grill in Golden, the very same building that once acted as Colorado’s territorial Capitol during the 1860s. The event is scheduled for 6 p.m. and will include special guest appearances from former Denver Broncos Charlie Adams and Preston Parsons, former Colorado lawmakers John Evans and Frank DeFillipo, as well as current State Sen. Mike Kopp, R-Littleton.

RITTER CONGRATULATES COMPANIES, UTILITIES FOR RECEIVING STIMULUS FUNDING: Gov. Bill Ritter yesterday congratulated two Colorado companies and two utilities for receiving $38.2 million in Department of Energy stimulus grant funding. Foro Energy, Inc. and ITN Energy Systems, Inc. were awarded funding to advance clean energy technology. The City of Fort Collins Utilities and Black Hills Energy in Pueblo were awarded funding for “smart grid” investments to strengthen and improve the electricity grid.

LAWSUIT FILED AGAINST ALTERNATIVE LENDING: Colorado Attorney General John Suthers announced yesterday that his office’s Consumer Protection Unit has filed a complaint against Alternative Lending of Colorado, a Colorado Springs-based company, and the group’s top loan originator, April A. Bigler. According to the complaint, Bigler regularly engaged in deceptive trade practices, including misrepresenting loans’ interest rates, quoting monthly mortgage payments to consumers that did not include taxes and insurance costs, and delaying closings to pressure consumers into signing a mortgage. As part of its lawsuit, the Office of the Attorney General is seeking restitution for the victims of Alternative Lending’s business practices, as well as civil penalties against the company.
