Fox finds way back home

They say, “You can’t go home again.”     

Well, at least novelist Thomas Wolfe said that. 

But that never applies to sports, especially after a season-ending injury. 

And due to Broncos safety Darcel McBath being placed on the injured reserve with a broken forearm he suffered against Indianapolis, the team announced yesterday that they signed free-agent safety Vernon Fox.

Fox is an eighth-year safety who played for the Broncos in 2008 before being released following the 2009 preseason. 

He has been out of football since being released on Sept. 5. Fox entered the NFL with San Diego as a college free agent in 2002 and played two seasons each with the Chargers (2002-2003), Detroit (2004-2005) and Washington (2006-2007) before joining the Broncos as a free agent on Sept. 23, 2008.

In his career, Fox has totaled 105 tackles, two interceptions and a fumble recovery in 96 games. He added 48 tackles and a blocked punt on special teams.

As a Bronco, Fox appeared in 10 games (three starts) and returned a fumble 23 yards for a touchdown against the New York Jets on Nov. 30, 2008. He also totaled 20 tackles and three special-teams stops.

The Denver Broncos, The Sports Authority, and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver last night teamed  up for “Shop with a Bronco” at The Sports Authority at Park Meadows Mall.

Members of the Broncos hosted 32 kids chosen from all of the eight metro branches of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver for a special private shopping event at The Sports Authority. Each child received a $100 gift card from The Sports Authority so they could with Broncos players.
